Meet Mugsy — The Bald Coffee Cup With a Big Heart
Andrew RileyEvery brand needs a face. Ours is a recycled coffee cup named Mugsy.
He's bald. He's blue. He doesn't talk much. And somehow, he's become the most recognizable part of everything we do.
How Mugsy Started
Mugsy didn't come from a branding agency or a focus group. He showed up the way most good things do — by accident.
During the early days of Goodbye Cycle, we were filming storytelling videos with a noir, graphic novel aesthetic. We needed a character — someone (or something) that could represent the brand without taking itself too seriously.
A coffee cup was sitting on the desk. Someone drew a face on it. That was Mugsy.
He stuck. First as a background prop in videos, then as a recurring character in our Coffee Mug Stories content, and eventually as the official mascot of the entire Goodbye family.
Who Mugsy Is
Mugsy is a recycled coffee cup. That's important — he's not new, he's not fancy, and he's not trying to be something he's not. He's a cup that got a second life. Just like the bikes at Goodbye Cycle. Just like the stories we tell.
He represents the brand's core values without saying a word:
Sustainability: He's recycled. He's proof that used doesn't mean useless
Simplicity: He's a cup with a face. There's nothing complicated about him.
Community: He shows up everywhere — videos, stories, events. He's the quiet presence that ties everything together.
Humor: He's a bald cup. You can grow his hair. That's inherently funny, and we lean into it.
The Mugsy Kit
The Mugsy Kit is Mugsy's physical product. It's a recycled coffee cup (with his face on it, obviously) that comes with drainage rocks, soil, grass seed, and fertilizer.
You plant the seeds. You water them. Grass grows. That grass is Mugsy's hair.
It's part planter, part desk toy, part conversation starter. Kids love it. Adults love it. Plant people love it. Coffee people love it. It costs $13.99, it's made from recycled materials, and it's weirdly satisfying to watch a coffee cup grow hair over the course of two weeks.
Why Mugsy Matters
Brands can feel distant. Corporate. Polished to the point of being unrelatable. Mugsy is the opposite of that. He's simple, approachable, and a little absurd.
He gives both Goodbye Cycle and Goodbye Coffee a shared identity that feels human — even though he's a cup. When you see Mugsy on a page, in a video, or on your desk, you know you're in Goodbye territory. And that territory is a place where things don't take themselves too seriously, where stories are valued, and where a recycled cup can be the most important person in the room.
Grow His Hair
If you haven't gotten a Mugsy Kit yet, now's the time. He's waiting. He's patient. But he could really use some hair.
